London
Only a slight chill in the air that
evening—
the Victoria Embankment in London,
our hands touching not quite unexpectedly,
some three hours after meeting.
The river held a life we’d never entered
and probably never would.
The trees and the rustle of fallen
leaves
inspired a kind of awe. In memory
that uncertain touch bonded
with the strong river currents.
